Fire Emblem Fates is a strategy role-playing game for Nintendo 3DS , which was developed by the Nintendo Intelligent Systems studio and published by Nintendo. The game was released in Japan on June 25, 2015, while it was released in North America on February 19 and in Europe on May 20, 2016. It is the 14th game in the Fire Emblem series .

Fire Emblem Fates was released in three different versions. The versions Fire Emblem Fates: Legacy and Fire Emblem Fates: Herrschaft were released in Germany on May 20, 2016, while Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation was released on June 9, 2016 as DLC for the other two versions. Depending on the version, you join another side in the conflict of the game.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Fire Emblem Fates is based on the gameplay of the Fire Emblem series . The player controls a protagonist whose appearance, gender and name he can choose himself. The level of difficulty of the game can be influenced in two ways. The three levels of difficulty "normal", "difficult" and "extreme" influence the behavior of the AI and some game mechanics. In addition, the game mode can be selected from “Classic”, “Beginner” and “Phoenix”. In classic mode, units that have fallen do not recover after a battle and are removed from the game. In the "Beginner" mode, units recover after the end of a battle, in the "Phoenix" mode after one more turn. The choice of game version - Legacy or Reign - also affects the difficulty. In the Legacy version you can level up your units as often as you like and the level of difficulty is similar to that of Fire Emblem: Awakening . This is not possible in the Dominion version and there is a limited number of experience points and gold as currency per battle.

The weapon triangle of the Fire Emblem series, which is based on a variant of scissors, stone, paper , has been expanded for this part. In addition to the triangle of sword, lance, ax, there is now an expanded triangle of magic, bow, dagger, where magic corresponds to the sword, the bow of the lance and the dagger of the ax. Fire Emblem Fates differs from other games in the series in that weapons no longer break after a certain number of attacks. Instead, weaker weapons give certain bonuses, while stronger weapons give fewer bonuses or even penalties.

As in other parts of the series, there is a support rank between different units. For each rank reached, there are up to three conversations between the characters concerned. The mechanic from Fire Emblem: Awakening of combining two units in combat by standing on adjacent spaces has been reintroduced. The combination gives the units bonuses and can block attacks by the enemy. As in Awakening , it is possible to unlock up to a fourth support level for each character, whereby the corresponding characters marry and have a child who has to be unlocked in another chapter. For the first time, it is possible for certain same-sex characters to get married.

Fire Emblem Fates has a multiplayer mode in which players can use their units against those of their opponents. You can set up a defense in your own castle, which should prevent enemy attackers from defeating your own units. Continue to exist amiibo the characters Daraen, Lucina, Ike and Marth, which enable the respective characters and associated items in the game.

action

Fire Emblem Fates follows the conflict between the two kingdoms of Hoshido and Nohr. The protagonist Corrin is a Hoshidian prince, who, however, was kidnapped as a young child by the Nohr royal family after an assassination attempt on the Hoshidian king Sumeragi and grew up in Nohr. To get Corrin back, the Hoshidic royal family kidnaps the Nohrian princess Azura, who thus grows up in Hoshido.

After several years, which Corrin spent in a castle in Nohr and spent with the children of the royal family Xander, Camilla, Leo and Elise, King Garon from Nohr allowed Corrin, together with his mentor Gunter and the soldier Hans from Nohr, to the Nohrian-Hoshidian border goes. There a battle with Hoshid soldiers ensues, in which Corrin is captured and Gunter von Hans pushed into the gorge at the border. Corrin is led to the Hoshidic Queen Mikoto, who tells Corrin about his past. Corrin meets his biological siblings Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi and Sakura. During a celebration to save Corrin, a phantom appears, which kills Mikoto in an explosion. As a result, Corrin loses control and turns into a dragon, which can only be stopped by Azura and a magical song she sings. With the death of the Hoshidic queen, a war between Nohr and Hoshido begins. The two armies meet at the border and Corrin has to choose which side.

legacy

In Fire Emblem Fates: Legacy , Corrin joins his Hoshidic family. While Corrin protects the Hoshid people from the Nohr army, Ryoma and Takumi disappear. While searching for Ryoma and Takumi, Corrin finds Takumi, who was previously attacked by a curse and freed from it by Azura and her song. In the city of Cyrkensia, Garon attends an opera where Azura appears with her song, which Garon weakens. After fleeing from the soldiers from Nohr, the group rested. During the night, Corrin discovers a painful Azura who has been weakened by singing her song. On the way to Nohr they find Ryoma, who has joined a resistance group against Nohr. After fighting against Leo and Camilla, which Corrin both spares, Corrin meets Hans, who attacks Corrin and kills Corrin's servant Lilith. Leo and Elise help Corrin get to Garon's castle. There they meet Xander, who opposes Corrin and almost kills Corrin. However, Elise faces Corrin and dies in the process. After a fight against Xander, Xander dies too. In the throne room, Corrin fights Garon, who turns into a dragon. To defeat Garon, Azura sings her song, weakening Garon and ultimately killing him. Singing her song frequently makes Azura so weak that she dissolves in water. After the war is over, Ryoma is crowned King Hoshidos, while Leo becomes King Nohrs.

Domination

In Fire Emblem Fates: Reign , Corrin joins his Nohr family. The Nohrian king Garon, who wants to convince himself of Corrin's abilities, sends Corrin on missions to suppress rebellions against Nohr. In the city of Cyrkensia, Garon attends an opera. A mysterious singer appears on this opera, who causes Garon great pain with her song. After the opera Corrin meets Azura, who is diving into another world through a lake. Corrin follows her and Azura reveals to Corrin that Garon is actually a water demon and that the truth only comes to light on the Hoshidic throne. On the conquest campaign to Hoshido, Corrin fights Sakura and Hinoka, which Corrin both spares. After a fight against Takumi, he throws himself from a fortress. Arrived in the Hoshidischen castle Ryoma turns against the Nohrische army. After beating Ryoma, Garon calls on Corrin to kill Ryoma. When Ryoma realizes that Corrin has spared his siblings, he kills himself through Seppuku , so that Corrin doesn't have to do it. After Nohr's victory, Garon enters the throne room alone. Corrin tells his siblings that Garon is no longer their father, they enter the throne room and defeat the Damon into whom Garon has transformed. After the win against Garon, Takumi appears, who is possessed by the same power as Garon before. Azura weakens Takumi with her song and Corrin can defeat Takumi. After the last victory, Azura disappeared. After the war ends, Xander becomes the new King of Nohr, while Hinoka becomes Queen Hoshidos.

epiphany

In Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation , Corrin does not join either side and instead flees with Azura, as both Nohr and Hoshido see this as treason. Azura leads Corrin to the gorge on the border between Hoshido and Nohr and jumps down the gorge. Corrin follows her. There Corrin learns that in truth the dragon Anankos, the ruler of the forgotten kingdom of Valla, is the mastermind behind the war. They also learn that Gunter survived the fall. Back in Hoshido and Nohr, Corrin travels through both countries to unite Nohr and Hoshido against their common enemy. Corrin and his siblings travel through the gorge back to Valla. In Valla they fight Arete, Azura's mother and former Queen Vallas, who was brought back to life and possessed by Anankos. They also fight and defeat the resurrected and possessed Mikoto and Sumeragi. Gunter also turns out to be possessed by Anankos, but can be freed from his curse. Then Anankos appears, who eats the Garon he possesses. Corrin and his siblings can still defeat Anankos. After the victory against Anankos and the end of the war, Ryoma is crowned King Hoshidos and Xander King Nohrs, while Corrin is crowned by Azura as the new ruler of Vallas. All three kingdoms swear by eternal peace.
