KK Intelligent Systems ( Japanese 株式会社 イ ン テ リ ジ ェ ン ト シ ス テ ム ズ , Kabushiki-gaisha Interijento Shisutemuzu , English Intelligent Systems Co., Ltd. ) is a game developer belonging to Nintendo Japan . The team is responsible for the development of numerous successful video games from well-known Nintendo game series, including Metroid , Kid Icarus , Nintendo Wars and Fire Emblem . In the past, they also programmed many of Nintendo's development tools , such as the Super Nintendo Emulator SE .
history
Intelligent Systems was founded in December 1986 when some members of Nintendo's R&D 1 team formed a new development team under Gunpei Yokoi .
During the SNES era, Intelligent Systems was internally split into different teams: Team Deer Force, responsible for programming Super Metroid , Team Battle Clash ( Super Scope games), Team Emblem ( Fire Emblem ) and Team Shikamaru ( Mario Paint ).
The team is currently developing games for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch . The studio was originally located in Nintendo's Kyoto Research Institute office building, but moved to a newly built building near Nintendo's headquarters in October 2013.
