Programming tools are computer programs that support software developers in their activities of programming computer programs.

Such tools are provided in the IT development environment and used, for example, for the following purposes:

In addition to these specialized tools for program production in the narrower sense, other tools are used for upstream and downstream activities in the software development process, for example for data modeling , for project management , for documentation management and many others.

Tools that support several of these disciplines are integrated development environments (IDE for short).
