Toolkit

As Toolkit ( English for tool set ) refers to a collection of different tools , which made for a specialized purpose, used and often kept together.

In particular, software tools, but not only those, are often synonymous with English titles like Tool or set of tools or tool suite called, also with toolbox is often not only the box (a toolbox ), but essentially meant its contents. The term toolkit and the like are often part of the product name of these tool collections.

Examples

Mechanical tools

Purpose-specific collections of such tools are mostly used in crafts , for example:

  • Tools and aids carried in or on vehicles (such as cars, motorcycles, bicycles, etc.) - for example with individually matching wrenches, replacement for wearing parts (such as valves, fuses, lamps), as well as tools for tire repairs and the like

Such tool collections are often used in information technology and software development and, depending on the manufacturer, are often referred to as toolkits . Such software sets are programming tools or service programs for different purposes, depending on the system environment in the form of program libraries . They can be used, for example:

  • for the creation of graphical user interfaces, see GUI toolkit ,
  • to use new program versions (installation / deployment toolkits),
  • for network monitoring,
  • for error diagnosis and / or system / data recovery.

Outside of software development, such program collections are used as application software for processing / solving interdisciplinary tasks. Sample applications:

As a tool for process optimization a special kind of toolkit is offered and toolchain ( English chain = "chain") refers to - a lot of interacting, interconnected in their use of sequence tools to solve a whole problem with a continuous work flow and improve the efficacy ( effectiveness ) and Profitability (efficiency) of the problem-solving process.

Media in education

Media / resources (collections) in the field of education are also sometimes referred to as toolkits .
