Panel de Pon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Panel de Pon ( Japanese パ ネ ル で ポ ン ) is a puzzle game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Super Famicom . Publication was limited to October 27, 1995 and limited to Japan.

A version with identical game mechanics with a different background story appeared in late 1996 in the western sales regions (North America and Europe) under the name Tetris Attack. The original scenario of a peaceful fairytale world, whose fairies are turned against each other by evil forces, has been replaced in Tetris Attack by characters and locations from Yoshi's Island . In addition to the new story, an options menu has been added to the game. Also at the end of 1996, a port of Tetris Attack for the Game Boy appeared in all sales regions.

Later, 3 Satellaview versions of the original appeared under the names Panel de Pon - Event Version , Panel de Pon - Event Version 2 and Panel de Pon - Event '98 , in which you had to tackle a small number of stages and the resulting score -Could send code to compete with others. The original game "Panel de Pon" has also been available in Japan on November 27, 2007 on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console .

action

In Panel de Pon, the evil King Sanatos cast a spell over the world to fight the fairies. The "fairy of flowers", Lip , is a bit clumsy when it comes to using her wand. In the puzzle game, Lip has to beat her fairy friends to restore their personalities. This is followed by the fight against Phoenix, Dragon and Sanatos.

If you have destroyed Sanatos in hard mode , the person behind him shows up, the goddess Cordelia / Corderia . After the fight, the fairies learn that it is Lip's mother, the queen of fairies, who put the fairies to the test to see who deserved to be the next generation fairy queen in the new world. It is then learned that she chose her daughter Lip.

In the version for the GameCube, which is included in the Nintendo Puzzle Collection , the characters are other younger fairies who have replaced the old ones, and brand new characters and stages have been added. The plot of the story, however, is largely the same.

Game modes

1 player

Endless

In Endless mode ( エ ン ド レ ス , Endoresu ) it is not necessary to achieve a predefined goal, theoretically an endless playing time is possible. Depending on the number of points achieved, the player sees different ending sequences. He also receives some insider tips from Lip. You can set the starting speed of the sliding blocks and the general level of difficulty. In total, the following six characters are available in this mode:

  • Lip
  • Windy
  • Thiana
  • Elias
  • Flare
  • Serums

Time attack

As in Endless, Time Attack ( ス コ ア ア タ ッ ク , Sukoa attakku from English Score Attack ) offers a choice of tempo and degree. The characters are also the same. The goal in this mode is to achieve the highest possible number of points within 2 minutes (120 seconds). This is saved in a top 5 highscore list.

Stage Clear

Separately from the original storyline, you can fight your way through to Sanatos in Stage Clear ( ス テ ー ジ ク リ ア , Sutēji kuria ) and ultimately wipe him out. Already after stage 3–5, exactly halfway, he surprises the player with a match. However, most players lose this because the fight has a high degree of difficulty. Regardless of the outcome of the match, the game can continue from stage 4-1.

puzzle

Puzzle ( パ ズ ル , Pazuru ) is probably the trickiest mode. In a total of 60 levels you have to demonstrate very good dexterity because you have to solve blocks in just 1 to 4 moves (always precisely specified). The difficulty level in this mode increases rapidly.

VS Com

In addition to the 3 levels of difficulty, there is a hidden one that is activated via a key combination, which Lip in reveals after an ending of Endless, Stage Clear or VS Com. Only with "Easy" there is neither Sanatos nor a tip or ending, because it is only suitable for training. "Easy" has 10, "Normal" 11 and "Hard" every 12 stages. The secret level of difficulty is also 12, but the level of the opponents is much higher than with "Hard".

2 players

Time attack

The process corresponds to that of Time Attack in single player mode. The player who scores more points in 2 minutes wins.

VS

Plays like VS Com , but both opponents are active players here.
