Yoshi ( Japanese ヨ ッ シ ー , Yosshī ) is a video game character from Nintendo and the eponymous hero of a series of video games. It is a dinosaur that was originally known in Japan as the super dinosaur Yoshi . According to a character guide published by Nintendo in 1993, his full name is actually T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas .

history

Yoshi is Mario's friend and mount who first appeared in Japan in Super Mario World for the Super Famicom and for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in the USA and Europe . Yoshi was created by Shigefumi Hino , a graphic designer (and later Pikmin development manager ). The reason for this creation was the fact that shortly after Shigeru Miyamoto had finished the game Super Mario Bros. , Nintendo's design team wanted to let Mario ride a dinosaur. This concept was not technically feasible until the development of the SNES.

After the success of Super Mario World, Yoshi established himself as an independent video game character and eponymous hero of several Yoshi video games.

General

Yoshi is only slightly taller than Mario himself and is equipped with shoes. With his long tongue, Yoshi can swallow fruits and opponents and convert them into eggs that serve as projectiles. If certain objects - such as turtle shells - are not swallowed immediately but kept in the mouth, this can give Yoshi special abilities. These objects can also be spat out again, for example to get opponents out of the way. Yoshi can kick his legs and hold himself in the air for a short time, or he can transform himself into a heliyoshi , for example, in order to make better progress in certain areas. The green Yoshi, who is friends with Mario, was given a partner in Mario Tennis ( Nintendo 64 (N64)). Birdo is a small, pink, dinosaur-like creature with the ability to shoot eggs from its trunk. However, in other games such as Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl it was claimed that Birdo was female. In the meantime, however, the designation of Birdo as female predominates in newer game instructions and within games.
