Mario & Yoshi is a puzzle game , similar to the game Tetris , which was published by Nintendo in 1991 and 1992 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the Game Boy . In Japan it was released at the end of 1991 under the title Yoshi no Tamago (Japanese ヨ ッ シ ー の た ま ご about 'Yoshi's Egg'), in the USA in 1992 as Yoshi and in late 1992 as Mario & Yoshi in Europe . Between March and July 2007, the NES version was for the Virtual Console of Wii releases.

Gameplay

At the bottom of the screen is Mario , who is holding two tablets in his hand . Various squares with monsters in them fall down from above . Two identical monsters always have to be brought together so that they dissolve. With the A key, Mario moves his trays so that the stacks are as close as possible to the monster they are looking for when they fall down. Sometimes egg shells also fall off. An upper half and a lower half each have to be brought together in the correct order, mind you, and a little yoshi is created . If there are monsters between the two egg shells, another Yoshi will emerge depending on the number of monsters, which gives you additional points. So there is

  • if there are 0 figures a baby yoshi (50 points),
  • 1 to 3 pieces a Yoshi (100 points),
  • with 4 to 5 figures a wing yoshi (200 points),
  • if there are 6 figures, a Star Yoshi (500 points).

Republication

On September 1, 2011, Mario & Yoshi appeared as part of the so-called ambassador program for the Nintendo 3DS , where it can be downloaded through the eShop . Through the Ambassador Program, Nintendo 3DS is offering first-time buyers 20 free games, including ten for the NES and ten for the Game Boy Advance , which should be available by the end of the year. With this, Nintendo reacted to the sharp drop in the price of the 3DS, which took place on August 12th.
