Game Freak ( Japanese 株式会社 ゲ ー ム フ リ ー ク , Kabushiki-gaisha Gēmu Furīku ; English GAME FREAK Inc. ) is the Japanese video game developer behind the well-known role-playing game series Pokémon , which is distributed by Nintendo .

The company was founded in 1989 by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori . In honor of the founder, the main character in the Japanese Pokémon anime is called Satoshi.

In addition to the Pokémon series, Game Freak has developed a number of other games for various platforms, such as Quinty for the Nintendo Entertainment System , Pulseman for the Sega Mega Drive , Jelly Boy for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the downloadable title HarmoKnight for Nintendo 3DS . In 2015, Tembo the Badass Elephant was her first PC title.
