Mario Kart 7 is a fun racer (racing game) and the seventh offshoot of the Mario Kart series from Nintendo . It was released for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS in early December 2011 . As for the previous series offshoot, Hideki Konno was responsible for the title .

Gameplay

The game principle of Mario Kart 7 differs from other series offshoots mainly in details. So you can put together your own karts from different bodies , tires and paragliders . However, there are no ready-made karts for this. In certain stretches you can also go underwater with the help of a ship's propeller or glide a bit with a paraglider after jumps. For the first time, tracks appear in the game whose theme does not come from the Mario series itself, but from the Wii Sports series. In addition, coins that can be collected appear again in the game, as in Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart Super Circuit , through which the speed of the kart increases and kart parts are unlocked. However, unlike Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart Super Circuit , there is a 10-coin limit. Thus, Mario Kart 7 takes on some ideas from previous series offshoots. Compared to Mario Kart Wii , the drifting has also been adjusted. In Mario Kart 7 there are a total of 16 drivers plus their own Mii and 32 racetracks available.

With up to 8 players you can play locally or via the Internet . The StreetPass and SpotPass functions of the 3DS are also used. So you can z. B. Receive time trial ghost data from others. It is also possible to drive in first person perspective and steer by tilting the 3DS console. There are also accessories for this in the form of a steering wheel, which can be attached to the console.

history

Mario Kart 7 was announced on June 15, 2010 as part of the E3 game fair . The game was not presented there in playable form, but only as a real-time demo. This demo allowed some conclusions to be drawn about the game: it will run entirely at 60 fps , the 3D effect will be useful for assessing depths, and the drivers will watch each other while overtaking. The graphics appeared at Wii level. This demo ranks fourth in the ten best 3DS demos of 2010 on IGN Entertainment . In October 2010, IGN also compiled a list of the top ten most anticipated 3DS games, with Mario Kart 7 in first place and in December in 7th place of the 10 best 3DS games of 2011.

At the end of April 2011, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto promised that Mario Kart 7 would appear in 2011. More details about the gameplay were not yet known at the time.

A new demo for Mario Kart 7 was shown at E3 2011 , and the game was also available in playable form. IGN expressed skepticism as to whether the few visible changes could enable a fresh game principle, as the game is very similar to the DS offshoot.

At the end of July 2011, the game previously known as Mario Kart was given the name Mario Kart 7 , and December was given as the month of publication. Apart from new trailers, nothing new was announced at the Gamescom games fair in August. In September, the release dates were specified: The game will be released in Japan on December 7th and in the USA on December 4th.

On the occasion of the Tokyo Game Show game fair , new details about the game came to light: Lakitu and Metal-Mario were confirmed as characters. Another item was announced with the fire flower. Furthermore, some information about a first-person and multiplayer mode has been published.

On October 6th, Nintendo made new screenshots available. This confirmed the item Tanuki suit, which is supposed to reappear in Super Mario 3D Land , and the drivers Shy Guy and the Miis.
