Mario Kart Tour ( Japanese : マ リ オ カ ー ト ツ ア ー , Hepburn : Mario Kāto Tsuā ) is a racing game from the Mario Kart series developed by Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development and published by Nintendo on September 25, 2019 for Android in the Play Store and iOS was released in the App Store . It is based on the free-to-play principle .
Gameplay
Mario Kart Tour is based on the traditional gameplay of the Mario Kart series, in which famous characters from the Mario universe compete against each other in go-kart races. In traditional gameplay, players try to get the best possible ranking while trying to hinder their opponents using items obtained from question mark blocks. The game contains four different displacement classes: 50 cc, 100 cc, 150 cc and 200 cc, the first of which is available from the start and the next two can be unlocked during the game, while the fourth can be unlocked when purchasing the Gold Pass is included. The game also contains features from earlier Mario Kart parts, such as underwater sections and flight passages from Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8 . Mario Kart Tour contains some characters from previous offshoots, but also offers characters created especially for the game or skins for characters. Mario Kart Tour also offers karts from previous games. The game also introduces a new event: The party time, in which the player can use the randomly selected item for a limited time without limit, while he is invincible. It partially replaces the star from earlier parts of the series, as this is not available as an item itself. The game offers 16 different cups, with some tracks from previous cups being reused and all races lasting two laps. The cups are named after Mario characters instead of the usual items in the Mario universe. As of January 9, 2020, the game now has a multiplayer mode in a beta version, which is only available to members of the paid Gold Pass.
development
Mario Kart Tour was first announced in January 2018. In April 2019, Nintendo announced that there would be a closed beta exclusively for Android users that lasted from late May to early June. Originally announced for March 2019, the game was finally released on September 25, 2019. By September 26, 2019, it had already been downloaded over 10 million times from the Play Store alone. As of September 27, 2019, it had been downloaded over 20 million times. In the first week it was downloaded over 90 million times in total.
