Yoshi's Iceland DS , and later in Japan under the title Yoshi Iceland DS ( jap. ヨッシーアイランドDS, Yosshī Airando di Esu ) published, is a Jump 'n' Run - video game , developed by artoon for the Nintendo DS and published by Nintendo . The game was released in North America and Australia in November 2006, in Europe in December 2006, and finally in Japan in March 2007. Yoshi's Island DS is the sequel to the 1995 SNES video game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island . The game received positive reviews with 83%, awarded by critics - aggregator Metacritic . The game should be called Yoshi's Island 2 until two weeks before its release .

Gameplay

The story focuses on the Yoshi clan as they attempt to rescue newborns kidnapped by Kamek . Yoshi's Island DS adorns the same graphic design as Yoshi Touch & Go , but retains the same gameplay as its predecessor, although Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island only presented Baby Mario , the sequel now also includes Baby Peach , Baby Donkey Kong , Baby Wario and Baby bowser . Every baby gives Yoshi a special skill. The aim of the game is to fight your way through the different worlds with these skills.

reception

The bar or the hidden space between the two screens of the Nintendo DS emerges as a point of criticism. For example, GameSpy reviewers said it would be “ torture ” and “ massive frustration ” to be hit by an enemy in this blind space. Another point of criticism is the character Baby Wario, whose ability to be able to attract certain objects magnetically is described by IGN as " unreliable ", as the character is probably missing items that are positioned right next to him.

Sales figures

The game sold over 300,000 copies in the first week of its release in Japan alone. By March 31, 2008, the game had sold around 2.91 million times worldwide.

continuation

On March 14, 2014 Nintendo released a sequel called Yoshi's New Island , which was released for the Nintendo 3DS . In addition to the game's release, a Yoshi-style Nintendo 3DS was also released .
