Yoshi's Woolly World ( Japanese title: ヨッシーウールワールド, Yosshī Uru Warudo ) is from Good-Feel developed in yarn optics held Jump 'n' Run - video game , that of the Japanese video game company Nintendo current on 26 June 2015 for its then- game console Wii U was released. In spring 2017, an expanded, but graphically strongly compressed port for the Nintendo 3DS in the form of Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World was released .

Gameplay

Yoshi's Woolly World is based heavily on Yoshi's Island in terms of gameplay . Outstanding differences are the use of the Wii U's gamepad and a two-player mode.

The story of the game begins with Kamek appearing, separating the woolly Yoshis living peacefully at the Yoshi Atoll into individual balls of wool and kidnapping them.

The player controls the dinosaur Yoshi through different levels, such as mountains, valleys and caves, all of which have a yarn look. Yoshi's tongue interacts with objects to fight enemies such as piranha plants and to find secret passages. So it is possible to use Yoshi's tongue to tear open certain things made of yarn, such as walls, in order to make new paths accessible. According to Ebisu, there is no time limit in the game as the player should discover the world made of yarn. Yoshi can turn into an airplane or an umbrella, for example. There is also the option to switch between the classic mode and the "relaxed" mode. While the classic mode offers the usual gameplay, in the "relaxed" mode you can fly through the worlds with a winged Yoshi and thus avoid any dangers.

Multiplayer mode

In the multiplayer mode, two players can play two Yoshis whose wool pattern they can choose beforehand. It is possible to swallow your partner and throw him to a higher level.

Amiibo support

The game supports all previously released Amiibo figures, these give Yoshi a color pattern that corresponds to the character of the selected figure. However, if a Woll-Yoshi-Amiibo is used, then another, computer-controlled Yoshi appears in the game, which supports the player and can be swallowed and thrown as a ball of wool like the game partner in multiplayer mode. Nintendo therefore announced the Yoshi-Amiibo made of wool in three different colors, which appeared together with the game on June 26th. In addition, a mega-wool-yoshi-amiibo was published on November 27, 2015. Unlike the normal wool yoshis, this one is only available in green. Along with the release of Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World , a Schnuffel amiibo was released on February 3, 2017.

development

The game was announced on January 23, 2013 under the name "Yarn Yoshi" on a Nintendo Direct . In this phase of development there were serious differences to the final version, so Yoshi was z. B., similar to Kirby in Kirby and the magic yarn , only shown with its outlines by default. It was not until June 10, 2014 that Takashi Tezuka ( Nintendo ) and Etsunobu Ebisu ( Good-Feel ) and the publisher Nintendo and Good-Feel, who were already involved in Kirby and the magic yarn, shared new information at Nintendo's E3 press conference developed. Etsunobu Ebisu, a developer of Good-Feel, said Good-Feel wanted to create a game that incorporates the same elements as Kirby and the magic yarn . Bill Trinen then announced that the game would be compatible with Amiibo .
