Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a video game from the genre Jump 'n' Run , which the Japanese game console maker Nintendo will be developed and distributed. The game is the fourth 3D and the 15th part of the Super Mario series. It is the successor to Super Mario Galaxy and was released on June 11, 2010 in Europe exclusively for the Wii . The game builds on the game mechanics of the predecessor, but adds new game elements. Almost 7 million units of Super Mario Galaxy 2 have been sold so far. Since January 14, 2015 offers Nintendo Super Mario Galaxy 2 as downloadable titles for the Wii U to.

    Gameplay

The gameplay is similar to that of the predecessor Super Mario Galaxy. So the gravitational force, which enables the jump from one to the other planet when they are close enough to each other, plays a major role again. However, this has been expanded further, which enables new types of levels. In addition, there is now the possibility to ride the dinosaur Yoshi, who supports Mario with various skills. For example, Yoshi can use his tongue to swing himself over abysses or eat fruits that give him various powers, such as B. give the opportunity to run faster. By changing the color you also get the following options: Green Yoshi (normal skills), Red Yoshi (speed), Blue Yoshi (flying power), Yellow Yoshi (light ability in the dark, without him Mario falls into the void). While you are riding on Yoshi, the red colored pointer signals that you can now control Yoshi's tongue with it, for example to “shoot” it at a certain point. This can be used to swing yourself over abysses, pull things out or swallow opponents.

To select a level, a simple map screen is used, as it is e.g. B. is also present in New Super Mario Bros. However, there is also a central world, which is based on the appearance of Mario's head, with which you can navigate to the individual levels on the map. In addition, this world is constantly expanding as new skills are unlocked.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 also includes a help function that is similar to the one from New Super Mario Bros. Wii . With this optional function, the computer takes control of the figure and plays the level for you if the player has difficulty mastering it. However, upon completing the level you will only get a bronze star, which forces the player to complete the level himself in order to get the normal star. Furthermore, there are some monitors (tip channels) which give the player tips on how to solve the level.

    development

Shortly after the development of Super Mario Galaxy, Shigeru Miyamoto proposed to the development team to produce a successor. Originally, this game was only supposed to offer variations of the levels known from Super Mario Galaxy, which is why it was also called "Super Mario Galaxy 1.5" internally. The estimated development time was one year. But after more and more new ideas and functions were added to the game, it was decided to make a sequel. This increased the development time and it took a total of two and a half years to finish developing the game. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was finally unveiled to the public at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo on June 2nd. It has also been revealed to have approximately 95 percent new content, with the remainder coming from older Mario games. In addition, the game should have a higher level of difficulty.
