New Super Mario Bros. is a video game produced by the Japanese company Nintendo for the Nintendo DS portable video game system . This is a 2D - Jump 'n' Run game. It was released in Europe on June 30, 2006. At the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009, Nintendo announced the successor New Super Mario Bros. Wii , other games continue the series, see successor .

The term "New" in the title comes from the fact that New Super Mario Bros. revisited the classic game principle of the first Super Mario Bros. for the NES . With New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo initiated a renaissance of 2D platformer games, after which, with the advent of 3D games, they had initially been almost completely displaced. It is also the most successful Nintendo DS game of all time, with over 30.80 million units sold .

Game description

As with most Super Mario games, Princess Peach is kidnapped in this game . The player must set out with Mario to save them. He crosses ice levels, deserts, castles, etc. The game comprises 80 levels in eight worlds; two of them have to be unlocked first. It also includes 18 mini-games and a two-player mode in which one player plays Mario and the other Luigi.

control

New Super Mario Bros. is played primarily with the console joypad . The mini-games are controlled with the touchscreen and the items and the worlds are selected on a map screen. With Mario, like in the older Mario games, you can run, jump, smash blocks and enter tubes. What is new compared to all other Mario 2D games, however, is the stomp attack as Mario without using an item beforehand, the wall jump and the rope swing, which enables the player to get to higher places.
