biography
At the age of 5, Kondō began using his electric home organ for his first musical experiments. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Osaka Art School in Kanan . He studied more the arts and spent a long time painting, as well as writing and remixing pieces of music. He learned the cello and the piano and no other instruments. In the early 1980s, while he was at the university, Nintendo was also looking for staff among the students there. Kondō took this opportunity and applied.
Works
Kondo's first project was the arcade game golf. In the beginning of the console age, the possibilities of realizing large arrangements were not available and so Kondō had to limit himself to the stubborn programming of computers. Over the years the consoles have been equipped with better and better equipment, the performance of the sound chips has increased proportionally with that of the visual processing chips. Kondō was able to make the music more and more realistic and in greater abundance, so he began with the simple Super Mario Bros. , with simple structures, through more complex samples in Super Mario Bros. 3 , then with stereo on the SNES , more complex and realistic on the N64 , finally on the Nintendo GameCube with samples in CD quality and on the Wii for Super Mario Galaxy with orchestral recordings.
He listens to a lot of jazz and Latin music himself, but can be influenced in many ways. For the NES he produced music for soccer , kung fu , family BASIC , Nazo no Murasamejō and ice hockey . Kondō's most famous works are the soundtracks for The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario titles, some themes have been around since the mid-80s and have been expanded and revised again and again, despite their age, and are highly valued by fans. Together with Shigeru Miyamoto, he is one of the most famous employees at Nintendo.
