Wii Play ( Japanese original title は じ め て の Wii , Hajimete no Wii , German for example: "For the first time Wii") is a collection of mini-games for Nintendo's home console Wii . In Europe, Australia and Japan, Wii Play was released on the same day as the console. It was released in the US in February 2007. It is sold in a bundle with a Wii Remote and is intended to be used to learn how to use the remote control. The game supports the Mii function, which means you can play with your own Mii avatars.

According to the NPD Group , Wii Play was the top-selling video game in the US from 1995 to 2009 (excluding PC games). It is also the fifth most successful Wii game, with over 28 million units sold. The successor to Wii Play is Wii Play Motion .

Wii Play consists of nine mini-games that can be played alone or in pairs. Only one game is available at the beginning of the game. After you've played this, another one is unlocked (regardless of success) until all nine are unlocked (a game is called a level here, the first game is, for example, the first level). In single player mode you can get an award for every mini game. There are bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards. This is saved under the respective Mii. If you win one of these awards, you will receive a message in the Wii menu. A rank is also given in the message. The rank has something to do with the mini-game, for example in Panzerkiste there is a rank "Private First Class". There are the following mini-games:

Shooting festival
The minigame Schützenfest is about shooting objects in a cornfield. There are five rounds.
Mii swarm
In the mini game Mii swarm, the Miis run around and you have to z. B. Find twins or non-matching miis within time.
Table tennis
It is a simulation of the game of table tennis in which you compete against a computer opponent.
Mii pose game
The Miis can have three different poses that you have to choose quickly and then move the Mii into the right place. The place where the Mii must be placed is a bubble; the bubbles fly through the screen and are not allowed to land in the water.
Laser hockey
A simulation of the game air hockey , in which, as in table tennis, you compete against a computer opponent.
billiards
This is a billiards simulation.
fishing
You have to fish fish here. They bring different points. If the bonus fish is caught, the score is doubled.
Wild cow
This is a racing game. A cow is steered over a field and has to run around the scarecrows to get points.
Armored box
The highest level in which you have to shoot other tanks as a battle tank and lay land mines . Optionally, the game can also be played with the nunchuk. The game initially spans 20 missions. If you have finished this, you can then play up to the 100th mission. There are different types of enemy tanks. You start the game with three lives and after every five missions you get an additional attempt credited.

Surname

The name of the game is a play on words because Wii Play sounds like English we play , which translates as we play .
