As the title suggests, it is a golf game in which the Nintendo hero Mario , his friends and enemies compete against each other in different game modes. Mario Golf for the Game Boy Color (GBC) offers graphics in 56 colors and encounters with characters from the Mario universe, such as Mario, Peach, or Luigi. There are different weather conditions and floors that affect ball behavior. Mario Golf has four complete 18-hole courses. The character can create himself and gain experience through tournaments. There are different game modes and additional mini-games.

general description

It is not a simulation of golf that is realistic down to the smallest detail, but rather a balanced mixture of realism and fun that even inexperienced players can quickly discover.

As in Mario Tennis, it is also possible to transfer data between the home console version and the portable version of the game, so that, among other things, new characters can be unlocked. Between Mario Golf for Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color this was done via Transfer Pak , while Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour for GameCube can be linked to Mario Golf: Advance Tour for Game Boy Advance via GBA cable . Similar to Mario Kart , Mario Party and Mario Tennis , players particularly appreciate the multiplayer mode in this series.

The Toadstool Tour offers lanes with numerous mushrooms, bubble trees or so-called warp tubes that teleport the ball to other areas of the course. The impact strength can be determined via a bar system and offers a variant for beginners and one for advanced players. The latter can perform different spins, slices or special strokes by combining the A and B buttons.

The player has a golf bag with a selection of clubs and putters at his disposal, which also allow sidespins or powershot. The controls provide an arrow that shows the ideal trajectory of the ball without taking into account weather conditions or local obstacles. A grid of green also shows unevenness in the ground. The camera perspective can be changed so that the terrain can be explored or viewed from the air.

The demands on the player increase with more difficult terrain to master. The control takes place via the control buttons. There are numerous game modes, some of which are quite unusual, most of which can be played by up to four. In addition to a tournament mode, which enables further courses to be played, the Toadstool Tour offers a ring shot mode in which the golf ball must be hit through rings and the hole must be passed with par or better. If successful, additional characters will be unlocked.

Mario Golf: Virtual Console

Mario Golf Virtual Console offers 14 different characters with different swing techniques or skills and 10 game modes such as tournament, speed golf (game on time) or mini golf. There are six golf courses available from which experience points can be collected. It can be played with up to four players. Mario Golf Wii U Virtual Console is the US version of the game.

You learn the rules of golf in a playful way and after you have won the tournament in the Marion Club, you have to win tournaments in the Palm, Dune and Links Club. After winning the links tournament, the player is able to travel to Peach's castle to take part in the last and most difficult tournament, the Mushroom Cup. There are singles and doubles. If you play singles, you have to hit yourself all the time, whereas in doubles you have to take turns with a computer player.

The holes

In a tournament you have to play 18 holes. A hole consists of a tee box, some obstacles and the checkered flag on the "green". It is measured in yards. But not on the green, here it is calculated in meters.
