biography

Koizumi was born on April 29, 1968 in Mishima, Japan. After studying film, drama and animation at Osaka University of Arts , he joined Nintendo in 1991. His first project was the design and later also the writing of the game instructions for the Super Nintendo game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past published in the same year ; this also included the design of the background story. For the 1993 Game Boy successor The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening , Koizumi was initially also intended to write the instructions. Since the plot was still largely open at this point, Koizumi was given the task of designing the entire script as well as the behavior of the individual bosses . For the Nintendo 64 console , he was involved in the development of the games Super Mario 64 (as assistant director), The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask . For the latter title he devised several interactions between the game character and other characters.

In 2003 Koizumi moved to a new development team in Tokyo, where he - like before that for the first time with Super Mario Sunshine - led the development of the GameCube title Donkey Kong Jungle Beat as a director. He also held the role of Director in the development of the Wii game Super Mario Galaxy , published in 2007 , and was therefore responsible for every aspect of game development - also as the interface between the team and Mario inventor Shigeru Miyamoto . For the successor, which was also released for the Wii console in 2010, he took on the role of producer.

When developing games, Yoshiaki Koizumi places an emphasis on the narrated plot, which Shigeru Miyamoto does not share.

The IGN website named Koizumi 25th on a list of the top 100 game creators.
