Duck Hunt (NES)

Duck Hunt is an arcade video game that involves shooting down ducks as you fly by in the style of a classic duck hunt .

NES

Duck Hunt was released as an NES game in Japan in 1984 . At the same time, the NES Zapper appeared , a light gun that allows the player to aim at the screen and thus simulate a real duck hunt. Not least because of this accessory, it achieved cult status among NES fans and is often named among the top 10 games for the console. The game itself is divided into three modes , which include two implementations of duck hunting. In these games, the player is accompanied by a dog who laughs maliciously as soon as a duck has not been hit. For a long time the urban legend circulated that it was possible to shoot this one too. There is also a clay pigeon shooting , in which you have to aim at much smaller objects. There are three shots available for each object. The director in developing Duck Hunt was Shigeru Miyamoto .

Arcade game

Duck Hunt was also released as an arcade machine at the same time it appeared on the NES . Here it is possible in a bonus level to shoot the accompanying dog. It was also published for the PlayChoice 10 system (with 2 monitors). A Sega version of the same name exists from 1969, but it is electromechanical.

Wii

In 2006, Nintendo announced at the E3 game fair in Los Angeles that it would release a new version of Duck Hunt including the associated light gun for Wii . So far, however, only one implementation of the game in the form of a mini-game in Wii Play has appeared . A version for the Virtual Console is also in preparation. The dog, including a duck named Duck Hunt Duo, from the game is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U for .

Duck Season VR

The VR title Duck Season by the Stress Level Zero studio , released in 2017, pays homage to the NES classic . Here, a typical American living room with a mid-eighties aesthetic is made accessible by VR. The player slips into the role of a little boy who is sitting with a light gun in front of a game console. In the console is a kind of 3D version of Duck Hunt , which can be played from the first-person view .

As a central theme, the game takes up the aforementioned myth of the laughing dog. Depending on the course of the game, this turns into a bloodthirsty killer who can break through the television barrier.
