history
The construction of a multi-purpose hall on the USC campus has a history of over 100 years. Until the Galen Center was built, the Trojans lived in the Shrine Auditorium for 33 years from 1926 to 1949 . From 1949 to 1959, the Pan-Pacific Auditorium was the team's venue. Then it went to the then newly built Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena until the opening of the Galen Center. The final push for the construction project was given in 2002 when Louis Galen, a banker and longtime Trojans fan, donated ten million US dollars with his wife Helene . The couple acquired the naming rights for a further US $ 25 million . Another 15 million US dollars were added for a new training facility, which increased the total donation amount to 50 million US dollars.
Two years later, on October 31, 2004, after the groundbreaking ceremony in the presence of Bernard Parks and Jan Perry, members of the Los Angeles City Council , and the Galen couple, construction began. The Galen Center opened its doors on October 12, 2006. There are 10,258 seats for visitors. The volleyball women played their first game against Stanford Cardinal on the opening day.
