The American Authors are an American indie rock - band from New York .

Band history

The band was formed by singer Zac Barnett from Minnesota, guitarist James Adam Shelley from Florida, bassist Dave Rublin from New Jersey and drummer Matt Sanchez from Texas in 2006 when they were all attending Berklee College of Music in Boston . Originally they were called Blue Pages , later American Authors . After leaving college early, they moved to Brooklyn . In 2012 they got a recording deal from Island Records and released the singles Believer and Best Day of My Life that same year . In the following year, the debut EP named after the band followed, with which they made it to number 5 in the US Heatseeker charts. In the same year, Best Day of My Life entered the official single charts . Responsible for this were several uses in television commercials and appearances of the band, including Jay Leno and the television series The Carrie Diaries . But it wasn't until the release of the debut album Oh, What a Life in March 2014, which debuted at number 15 on the Billboard 200 , that the song reached its highest ranking and was awarded gold . At the same time, the single and album were also released in Great Britain , where they achieved similar placements as in the band's homeland.
