Needtobreathe
Needtobreathe (often in capital letters NEEDTOBREATHE ) are an American rock band with a Christian background from Seneca , South Carolina. The band consists of Bear Rinehart ( vocals , guitar , piano ), Bo Rinehart ( backing vocals , guitar), Seth Bolt (background singer, bass ), and Joe Stillwell ( drums , percussion ). So far they have released six studio albums: Daylight (2006), The Heat (2007), The Outsiders (2009), The Reckoning (2011), Rivers in the Wasteland (2014) , HARD LOVE (2016). Their style is reminiscent of other bands like The Fray , Lifehouse , Sister Hazel or Kings of Leon .
Band history
Needtobreathe began performing at Furman University in 2000, where Bear was on a football team. After graduation, the Rinehart brothers and Joe Stillwell teamed up with Seth Bolt in 2002 and released their first records, which were recorded in Seth Bolt's studio.
Daylight
After signing two record deals with Atlantic Records and Sparrow Records , the band headed to the UK to record their first studio album, Daylight , which was produced by Andy Green. Her first radio single You Are Here was released in early 2006. A few days before the release of the debut album, the band was featured on the Christian music magazine CCM Magazine as one of the New Artists 2006 . Daylight was released in the US on April 4, 2006.
The Heat
Needtobreathe began the preparatory work for their second studio album The Heat at the end of 2006 in Seth Bolt's “Old Plantation Studio”. The Heat was finally released on August 28, 2007 via Word Entertainment .
In 2008 Needtobreathe were nominated for two Dove Awards . Her song "Signature of Divine (Yahweh)" was nominated for "Rock / Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year" and The Heat was nominated for "Rock / Contemporary Album of the Year".
In 2009 the song Washed by the Water was nominated for the Dove Award as "Rock / Contemporary Song of the Year" - this time successfully.
The Outsiders
The band's third album, The Outsiders , was released on August 25, 2009. It tends even more than previous albums in the direction of alternative or southern rock; Handclaps, banjo, mandolin or slide guitar are used in many songs.
On the tour that followed, Needtobreathe came to Germany for the first time in 2010 and played two concerts in Cologne and Hamburg on October 10 and 11.
The Reckoning
The fourth album The Reckoning was released on September 20, 2011. The first single Drive All Night was already released in advance. You could also listen to the song "Slumber" on the band's homepage in advance. The new longplayer is stylistically linked to "The Outsiders", but there are also overlaps with the two earlier albums. Stylistically it is the most versatile Needtobreathe album so far, the songs are even more mature than before.
Rivers in the Wasteland
The fifth album, Rivers in the Wasteland , was released on April 15, 2014. It was partly more roots-rock-heavy and puristic than its two predecessors. After 14 songs on the last three albums, this time, as on the first regular album Daylight, only 11 songs are included. The three previously published tracks "Difference Maker", "The Heart" and "State I'm In" could already be heard on the band's homepage and were supplemented by the other songs at certain intervals until the release date. After drummer Joe Stillwell left the band shortly after the album The Reckoning was finished, Needtobreathe initially only appeared as a trio. The band's homepage has also been redesigned for the new album. From July 2014 the band went on tour with the album, but only in North America. Josh Lovelace has been a new official member of the band since 2015. However, a new official drummer is still missing.
Hard love
At the end of 2015 it was announced on the band's homepage that they were working on a 6th studio album. It was released on July 15, 2016 and is entitled Hard Love . Of the total of 12 songs, 4 ( Happiness , Money & Fame , No Excuses and Great Night ) have already been released in advance. Of all the Needtobreathe albums to date, it contains most of the electronic elements, some of which imitate the style of the first albums, which the band itself called "Rockndanceabilly". Despite the heavily electronically distorted sound, the recognition value is noticeable. Similar to Daylight , the first half is more energetic, the second much quieter.
Movie and TV
The Needtobreathe song "More Time" was used on the soundtrack of the 2007 film " PS I Love You " and numerous Needtobreathe songs have been featured in American films and television programs. In Germany, too, Needtobreathe songs such as "Keep Your Eyes Open" and "When I Sing" have been used as background music and in advertising.
In the tribute edition of the WWE for Gene Okerlund , the song "Forever on your Side" was played during a compilation of scenes from his life.
