GMA Dove Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GMA Dove Awards are an annual award ceremony organized by the US Gospel Music Association since 1969 to recognize outstanding achievements by artists in the field of Christian music .

history

The Dove Award is considered the most important award in the Christian music scene and is often compared to the Grammy Award in the secular music industry. In 2004, the award ceremony was officially renamed the GMA Music Awards . However, the new name could not prevail and therefore the well-known name GMA Dove Awards was reintroduced in 2006 .

Award winners

The Dove Award winners include many internationally successful artists who are well known outside the Christian music scene, such as Whitney Houston , Amy Grant , BeBe & CeCe Winans , Stacie Orrico , Mary Mary , Yolanda Adams , Michael W. Smith , Randy Travis , DC Talk , TobyMac , Third Day , Audio Adrenaline , Casting Crowns and Take 6 , which have won multiple Grammy Awards . The record holder is the five-time Grammy Award winner Steven Curtis Chapman with 56 Dove Awards to date .

Categories

Due to the high number of award categories (42 in 2012) and the intention to show several show acts by different artists, only those who are most interested will be featured directly in the television version of the awards ceremony.
