Third Day is an American Christian rock band formed in Marietta in the 1990s by lead singer Mac Powell and guitarist Mark Lee. The other band members are David Carr (drums) and Scott Wilbanks (keyboard). The name is an allusion to Jesus' resurrection, which took place on the third day after the crucifixion (see also Easter ).

style

The band's style is mostly referred to as "Southern (Roots) Rock" and is reminiscent of bands like Counting Crows or, especially when it comes to the voice of singer Mac Powell, of Hootie & the Blowfish . While the debut album (self-titled) was still heavily influenced by acoustic guitars, “Conspiracy No. 5 ”in 1997, a rather experimental record. The album title means the 5th meaning that is assigned to the word "conspiracy" in English dictionaries: A group comes together to convey a common conviction, in this case the Christian message. The album Time, on the other hand, gets its special character from the fact that the songs were recorded by the whole band in the studio and not, as is usual, each instrument individually. From around the fourth (regular) album onwards, the still characteristic "Southern Rock" dominates. Between the regular studio albums, the band repeatedly recorded well-known Christian ( worship ) songs, performed a.o. a. also a pure Christmas album.

history

In early 2008, Third Day announced that guitarist Brad Avery had left the band. After two years with only one guitarist, Jason Hoard was brought in as an additional live musician. Two years later Jason Hoard left and Brian Brunn replaced him until 2016, after which Trevor Morgan played as a live musician.

In early 2015, Third Day announced that Tai Anderson had left for private family reasons. Tim Gibson replaces him live on stage.

In the United States, the band won several musical awards.
