Benjamin "BeBe" Winans (born September 17, 1962 in Detroit , Michigan) is an American gospel and R&B singer.

resume

BeBe Winans belongs to the large Winans family of musicians and is the younger brother of Ronald, Carvin, Marvin and Michael, who form the gospel band The Winans . For a long time he worked in the background of the band and from the mid-80s he formed a duo with his sister CeCe Winans .

Their first joint hit was in 1987 the single IOU Me from the debut album BeBe & CeCe Winans . They were then nominated four times for the Grammy and CeCe was able to get a Grammy for best gospel singer in 1988.

The following year BeBe got his first Grammy for best gospel singer for the song Abundant Life and a year later again for Meantime from their second album Heaven . The album reached gold status and number 95 on the Hot 200 album charts.

The highlight of the joint work was the 1991 album Different Lifestyles , which was awarded platinum and Grammy and also reached number 1 on the R&B charts, as did the two single releases Addictive Love and I'll Take You There .

After two more albums, they parted ways. CeCe went solo and Benjamin, who had already co-produced the albums together, appeared on the film soundtrack for The Bodyguard , for which he received one of the Grammys for the producer team of the year, his last so far.

In 1997 his first solo album followed. This also included the single I Wanna Be the Only One , a collaboration with the English R&B women's trio Eternal . The song, which he wrote with Rhett Lawrence, reached number 1 in the UK and was a pan-European hit. In the US, on the other hand, successful releases were the songs In Harm's Way , which made it into the pop charts, and Thank You , which made it into the top 10 in the dance charts.

Since then, BeBe Winans has regularly released other solo albums, which are consistently featured in the pop and R&B album charts.

Furthermore, since 2004 he has had his own national radio show in the USA, the BeBe Winans Radio Show , which revolves around gospel and soul music.

Winans has also appeared in several Broadway musicals, most recently in King Solomon Lives, A Nubian Love Story in the role of King Solomon. He also appeared in a supporting role in the film The Manchurian Candidate in 2004.

In 2014 he recorded the album Foreign Land with his brothers Marvin and Carvin under the name 3 Winans Brothers .
