The 1989 Grammy Awards were the 31st award of the most important US music award.

The rap category was newly introduced here; The winners were DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince .

The Grammy went to artists and musicians in 77 categories from 24 fields. After there weren't any in the previous year, this time there were nine honorary grammys for lifetime achievement.
