Siegmund Nimsgern

Siegmund Nimsgern (born January 14, 1940 in St. Wendel ) is a German opera and concert singer (baritone).

Life

After graduating from high school (1960) in St. Ingbert , Nimsgern studied singing and school music at the Saar University of Music with Professors Sibylle Fuchs, Jakob Stämpfli and Paul Lohmann .

Nimsgern made his debut at the Saarland State Theater in 1967. In 1971 he moved to Düsseldorf and Duisburg to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein ; from there he started his international opera activities. He worked as a baritone a . a. at La Scala in Milan , the Covent Garden Opera ( London ), the Metropolitan Opera New York , the Opéra de Paris and the Vienna State Opera . 1983-1986 he sang in Bayreuth the Wotan in by Georg Solti , Peter Schneider and Peter Hall were responsible for production of the Ring cycle .

He held several visiting professorships, including a. at the Mozarteum Salzburg (1997–98). In addition, he was a professor at the Saarland University of Music and Theater .

Nimsgern's discography has a large number of records on various recording companies; one focus of his repertoire is on works by Johann Sebastian Bach .

He lives with his family in St. Ingbert in the Saarland . His son is the musical composer Frank Nimsgern .
