dc Talk was a Christian band from the USA that has been producing music between rock , pop and hip-hop with great success since 1989 . The ethnically mixed group consisted of Toby McKeehan , Michael Tait and Kevin Max. They were primarily committed to believing in Jesus Christ and also against racism and in various artistic projects. For their work against racism, which is still a problem in America, in 1996 they set up the so-called "ERACE" foundation. They have also published two books for the benefit of the organization "The Voice of Martyrs", which supports persecuted Christians worldwide.
Band history
One of the best-known songs of this group is called " Jesus Freak " , which is musically strongly influenced by grunge influences and since 1995 has been a hymn of western Christian youth culture. Before that, the trio was better known for their hip-hop and crossover sounds and later also for pop and R&B. It was only this shift in style towards rock that offered the chance to establish himself permanently in the music business. The change of direction was enthusiastically received by the audience and critics alike.
However, the band retained the name, which has now become very well known, which - in allusion to the often explicit lyric poetry of American hip-hop artists - is supposed to stand for decent christian talk . In the song Time Ta Jam from the self-titled debut album, there are lines that explain this:
" You see D's for Decent,
and you will agree
Quite explicit yet rated G"
Since 2001, the three band members have started their solo careers one after the other - and in some cases with great success: While Toby McKeehan turned back to rap and hip-hop, Michael Tait founded his own rock band and Kevin Max stylistically committed himself more to alternative rock and singer / Songwriter. It is currently very uncertain whether the trio will ever work together again as the band "dc Talk".
