Jesus Freak is dc Talk's fourth and best-known album and was released on November 21, 1995. To date, it has been sold over 2 million times in the United States alone.
Origin of the title
Jesus Freak was originally a derogatory term for supporters of the Jesus movement in the 1960s and 1970s. In the course of time the meaning changed at least within the Christian youth scene into a positive and describes someone who lives his Christian faith openly.
meaning
Compared to the previous album Free At Last (1992), the hip-hop influences disappear almost completely in favor of the rock parts. The content is about the Christian faith, but also about social problems such as racism against people of other skin color ( colored people ).
