Rachel Platten (born May 20, 1981 in Newton Center , Massachusetts ) is an American R&B and pop singer .

biography

Rachel Platten grew up in Massachusetts . She started playing the piano at the age of four and later began writing her own songs in school . After graduating from Trinity College in Connecticut in 2003 , she released her first album, Trust in Me, with R&B music at her own expense . Two years later she performed as a backup singer in front of a large audience during a stay in Trinidad and then decided to pursue her music career in New York .

In the following years she was mainly on the road as a live musician and was also hired for the accompanying program by performers such as the Strokes , Regina Spektor and Ziggy Marley . Her song Seven Weeks was featured in the 2009 soundtrack for The Good Guy . Her second album, entitled Be Here , was released in 2011 on the Rock Ridge Music label . With the song 1,000 Ships she had a respectable success that opened further doors for her. She sang the theme song Work of Art for the television series Jane by Design and other songs were used in series such as Pretty Little Liars and the 2014 film Annie . At the end of the same year she was featured in the Christmas episode of Pretty Little Liars with her Fight Song , which she wrote with producer Dave Bassett .

In early 2015, Rachel signed plates with Columbia Records and supported Andy Grammer on his US tour. In March the Fight Song was released in Australia. It reached number 2 there and shortly afterwards number 8 in New Zealand. In June it also appeared in North America and also made it into the top ten in the USA and Canada. It has sold over a million times in their homeland alone. When it was finally released in the UK in August, it even became a number one hit there .
