Ziggy Marley (born October 17, 1968 in Kingston ; actually David Nesta Marley ) is a Jamaican reggae musician and songwriter . He is the son of Bob Marley and Rita Marley . Together with his siblings Cedella , Sharon and Stephen he forms the band Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers .

Life

Career

David Nesta Marley grew up in Trenchtown , a borough of Kingston . There he received guitar and drum lessons from his father at an early age. He was also a regular part of the studio recordings of his father and his band The Wailers . In 1979, when he was 11 years old, his father Bob took him and his siblings Cedella, Stephen and Sharon into the studio to record the father-written song "Children Playing in the Streets". These four siblings also founded the Melody Makers. Six years later they produced their first LP Play the Game Right with their record label EMI . Due to the low sales figures, EMI wanted to continue producing Ziggy Marley as a solo artist, so that in 2003 his first solo album, Dragonfly , was released. Love Is My Religion followed in 2006 . Ziggy Marley composed almost all of the songs himself and played most of the instruments.

On January 15, 2013, the live album In Concert was released , for which he also reinterpreted Is This Love and War by his father. On April 11th 2014 he will release his fifth solo studio album "Fly Rasta".

David Nesta Marley got his nickname "Ziggy" from his father Bob Marley immediately after his birth. Ziggy's twisted foot reminded Bob of juggling a soccer ball, which his wife and friends said he was good at. In Jamaican slang, they called out "Ziggy, Bob, Ziggy!"

family

Ziggy Marley has three siblings, seven half-siblings, and one adoptive sister. The best known are Cedella and Stephen , Stephanie and Sharon (adopted), who founded the band Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers with Ziggy, but also Damian , Julian , Ky-Mani and Rohan , who are more or less successfully established in the music business .

Ziggy Marley is married to Orly Agai Marley , Vice President of the William Morris Agency , and has four children, a daughter and three sons.

He also has three other children from a previous marriage, a son and two daughters.
