Patrick Kanner (born April 29, 1957 in Lille ) is a French politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS). He has been Minister for Urban Development, Youth and Sport since 2014.

Life

Patrick Kanner studied public law at the University of Lille II and was subsequently used as Maître de conférences at the University of Lille III operates. He is married and has two children.

Political career

Patrick Kanner first got involved in the 1974 presidential election campaign at the age of 17 and subsequently joined the party.

Kanner was elected to the local council of Lille in 1989 and was elected to the mayor Pierre Mauroy and from 2001 under Martine Aubry . From 1993 to 2000 he was also Deputy Director General of the Lille Métropole Municipal Association . In 2014 he did not run for the local council again.

In 1998, Kanner was elected to the General Council of the North Department , where he became the third vice-president. After the 2004 election, he was promoted to first vice-president. On March 31, 2011, he was elected President of the General Council. He resigned from this position after his appointment as minister, and he will continue to be a member of the departmental council after the 2015 election.

On August 26, 2014, Kanner was appointed Minister for Urban Development, Youth and Sport in the Valls II cabinet . He remained in this position in the Cazeneuve cabinet .
