Ericka Bareigts (born Couderc ; born April 16, 1967 in Saint-Denis , Réunion ) is a French politician . She has been Minister for Overseas Territories since 2016.

education

After graduating from high school, Bareigts studied at the University of La Réunion . Then she went to Paris to study international business law and obtained a DESS in business law on Réunion in 1992 . After that she was initially a lawyer.

Political career

From 1998 to 2004 she held several positions in the social administration of Réunion. Bareigts, who had joined the Parti socialiste in 1986 , moved into the city council of Saint-Denis in 2008 and became the second deputy of the mayor Gilbert Annette . The following year she ran in the European elections in 2009 in the constituency for the French overseas territories, but was not elected. In 2010, however, she succeeded in joining the Regional Council of Réunion. In the parliamentary elections in 2012 she was in the first constituency of Réunions with 55.2% in the second ballot in the National Assembly . elected. On August 30, 2016, as part of a minor reshuffle in the Valls II cabinet , she was appointed Minister for Overseas Territories to succeed George Pau-Langevin . In this capacity she was confirmed in the Cazeneuve cabinet .
