The IV Summer Youth Olympic Games were to be held in Dakar , the capital of Senegal , in 2022 , and thus for the first time in Africa . On July 15, 2020, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the Games would be postponed to 2026 due to the postponements caused by the COVID-19 pandemic . Without the new date, there would be five Olympic Games in three years.

The IOC General Assembly voted for Africa at its session in Pyeongchang . Which African country will be the host was decided at the IOC session during the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in October 2018 . In addition to Senegal, Tunisia , Botswana and Nigeria applied to host. The West African Senegal was considered the favorite.

Dakar was officially announced as the venue on October 8, 2018.

In addition to Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly Portudal are planned to be the venues for the Youth Summer Games.
