The 13th Winter Paralympics are to be held in the Chinese capital Beijing . The Paralympics are the most important major sporting event for people with physical disabilities and are expected to take place after the 2022 Winter Olympics from March 4 to 13, 2022. The contract between the host countries and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) states that the Paralympics will use the same venue as the Olympic Games.

After the 2008 Summer Games, the second Paralympic Games and the first Winter Paralympics are to be held in China. Beijing is set to become the first city to host both summer and winter Paralympics. Almaty also applied to host the event.

Selection of the venue

The decision on the organizer of the Paralympics 2022 and the Olympic Winter Games 2022 was made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of its congress in Kuala Lumpur on July 31, 2015. Beijing prevailed against Almaty ( Kazakhstan ).

At the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, 82 competitions, divided into 6 sports, were held. In snowboarding, two women's competitions will be added compared to 2018. A total of 30 competitions are planned in alpine skiing , 20 in cross-country skiing , 18 in biathlon , twelve in snowboarding and one each in sledge ice hockey and wheelchair curling . There are 39 women's and 39 men's competitions as well as four mixed-sex competitions. For the first time, there will be as many competitions for women as for men.
