The 3rd Winter Paralympics were held under the name 3rd World Winter Games for the Physically Disabled from January 14th to 20th, 1984 in the Austrian city ​​of Innsbruck , because Sarajevo was unable to host games for disabled athletes. Only the giant slalom for physically handicapped athletes was carried out as a demonstration sport in Sarajevo. The Paralympics are the Olympic Games for people with physical disabilities . 457 athletes from 22 nations took part in the competitions and perceived Innsbruck as a very well organized and benchmark-setting event. In 1984 the Paralympics came under the auspices of the IOC for the first time .
