The Lake Perris is a reservoir in Riverside County in the US state of California , which was completed in the 1973rd Located in a valley surrounded by mountains between the cities of Moreno Valley and Perris , it forms the southern end of the California State Water Project . The reservoir is also part of the Lake Perris State Recreation Area. This recreation park offers numerous activities.

Located in an unparalleled area in Riverside County , California , Lake Perris is 478 m above sea level. The reservoir is located between hills and small mountains near the towns of Moreno Valley and Perris . It comprises 162,100,000 m³ of water, which is stored behind a 3 km long and 39 m high zigzag-shaped dam .

climate

Summers at Lake Perris are hot and dry, while winters are cold and humid. Rain falls almost exclusively between November and April. The average water temperature is 21  ° C . In the summer months the water is as warm as bathing water and suitable for swimming.

Several weather influences come together at Lake Perris: Coastal fog and smog come from the west, strong hot and dry winds from the deserts in the east and northeast.

Most of the land around the lake is covered by Coastal Sage Scrub , a form of scrubland, and is home to many birds and other wildlife. During the day, mule deer , racing cuckoos , bobcats , coyotes , rabbits , quails , gopher snakes and rattlesnakes can be spotted from time to time. However, different lizards , rodents , ducks and birds of prey are much more common . During the rainy season from November to April, wildflowers shape the landscape.

Ya'i Heki 'Regional Indian Museum

The Ya'i Heki 'Regional Indian Museum provides information on the history of the California State Water Project and the history and culture of the Indians in the southern California desert region. The museum is open on Wednesdays and weekends.
