history

Look at Perris

The Perris Valley originally consisted of pastureland and was not heavily populated until the 1880s, a period of great economic growth in Southern California . The connection to the California Southern Railroad led to the creation of a settlement around the new station. The railway line was built in 1882; this enabled the current cities of Barstow and San Diego to be connected. However, due to a dispute over property rights in 1885, most of the residents had to leave their homes and settle 3 km further north on the railway line. Here they founded the town of Perris, named after Fred T. Perris , the chief engineer of the California Southern Railroad. In 1911, Perris was officially named City . The city was originally part of San Diego County , but when Riverside County was founded in 1892, it was assigned to it.

The Southern California fast-food restaurant chain Farmer Boys was founded in Perris in 1981.

On 20 March 2007, in the news program Nightline on ABC as part of the Reality Checks on Perris itself and the many foreclosed condos in Riverside County reported Perris was referred in this regard as the "epicenter".

In January 2018, the small town got into the media worldwide because the married couple David and Louise Turpin held their twelve children, aged two to 29, imprisoned for 13 years. The children were soiled, disturbed, frightened and malnourished by the police freed, after which a 17-year-old was able to flee. The children crouched on the floor in a room, some of them tied to their beds with chains and padlocks.

politics

Perris is part of the 37th District in the California Senate , currently represented by Republican Mimi Walters, and the 65th District of the California State Assembly , represented by Democrat Sharon Quirk-Silva. Perris is also a member of California's 49th Congressional District , which has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R + 5 and is represented by Republican Darrell Issa .
