Winchester is a census-designated place in Riverside County in the US state of California , United States , with 2534 residents (as of 2010).
The community was founded in 1886 in the Pleasant Valley, then part of San Diego County . It was named after Mrs. Amy Winchester, the widow of Horace Winchester.
Winchester has always been a rural town and farm location before growth in the housing industry hit it in the early 21st century. When a real estate bubble followed the construction boom in 2007 , the number of new buildings in Winchester fell again.

Winchester is located in the west of Riverside County in California in the USA . The municipality borders on Hemet in the northeast and is otherwise surrounded by a municipality-free area, but there are other places in the vicinity with Homeland , Romoland and Menifee . Diamond Valley Lake is located southeast of the town limits . California State Route 79 runs through Winchester .
Winchester has 2534 inhabitants (as of 2010) and covers an area of 20.025 km², which consists entirely of land; the population density is thus 126.5 inhabitants per square kilometer and is therefore very low. The center of Winchester is at an altitude of 449 m.

Winchester is part of the 28th District in the California Senate , currently represented by Democrat Ted Lieu , and the 67th District of the California State Assembly , represented by Republican Melissa Melendez . Winchester is also a member of California's 42nd Congressional constituency , which has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R + 10 and is represented by Republican Ken Calvert .
