La Quinta is a city in Riverside County in the US state of California , United States , with 37,467 inhabitants (as of 2010). Population growth in La Quinta was faster than most other California cities in the 1990s and 2000s. Located between Indian Wells and Indio , the city is part of the Coachella Valley .
La Quinta is a resort and is rated by the lifestyle magazine Robb Report as the most important golf area in the USA. The "La Quinta Resort & Club", which has existed since 1926, offers one of La Quinta's golf courses. Here Frank Capra wrote the script for the film In the Fetters of Shangri-La .
geography
La Quinta is located in central Riverside County in California in the USA . It is bordered to the northwest by Indian Wells and Palm Desert , to the north by Bermuda Dunes, and to the northeast by Indio . In the south, the city borders on a community-free area. California State Route 111 runs through the northern part of La Quinta .
Located in the Coachella Valley , La Quinta has 37,467 inhabitants (as of 2010) and covers an area of 92.078 km², of which 90.954 km² are land; the population density is thus 411.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The city center is at a height of 41 m.
Santa Rosa Mountains
La Quinta and its surroundings are best known for the Santa Rosa Mountains . Visitors to the Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim can experience the PGA West golf course in La Quinta in the “Soarin 'Over California” simulator, along with other California attractions . In the recordings, the Santa Rosa Mountains nestle against the golf course.
The area is close to the San Andreas Fault . Some companies offer jeep tours to the fault line.

history
From 1880 to 1920 agriculture began to develop in what is now La Quinta using both ancient and modern irrigation systems. At that time, the sand dunes that later covered La Quinta were designated as uninhabitable by the State of California and its surveyors.
In 1926, Walter Morgan founded the La Quinta Resort & Club in the northern part of Marshall Cove as a secluded retreat for Hollywood celebrities . This is also where the first golf course in Coachella Valley was built , and California State Route 111 was built through the valley in the 1930s . The expansion of Washington Street in the 1950s and 1960s connected La Quinta to US Highways 60 and 99, which later became Interstate 10 .
As the neighboring desert cities grew, La Quinta also saw significant development in the mid-1980s; in 1980 the place had 4200 inhabitants, while in 1990 there were 11,215. This led to La Quinta receiving town charter on May 1, 1982. Until the 1990s, La Quinta remained a largely seasonally inhabited city, before more year-round residents settled.
Demographics
La Quinta has developed into a multicultural city as groups of various origins settled in the Coachella Valley , especially in the 1990s and 2000s . Most of them were Mexicans and Mexican-Americans . Other ethnic groups are Armenians , Bosnians , British , French , Germans , Italians , Poles and Jews of various origins.

La Quinta is part of the 28th district in the California Senate , currently represented by Democrat Ted Lieu , and the 42nd district in the California State Assembly , represented by Republican Brian Nestande . La Quinta also belongs to California's 36th Congressional constituency , which has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R + 1 and is represented by Democrat Raul Ruiz .
tourism
The city has a healthy tourism industry, especially in the winter months when the so-called "snowbirds" are in La Quinta. These are retirees and entrepreneurs from the northern regions of America who spend the cold season in warm regions. With more than 20 golf courses in La Quinta, golf has a special place here. The number of shopping centers in the city has increased, and local discounters like Target and The Home Depot as well as more exquisite companies like Kohl’s and Stein Mart have brought the city millions of dollars in revenue. The city council hopes by the end of the decade to have a shopping area in La Quinta that will resemble "El Paseo" in Palm Desert and "The Village" and "Palm Canyon" in Palm Springs .
