El Cerrito is a census-designated place in the northwest of Riverside County in the US state of California ( United States ) with 5100 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area has a size of 7.194 km², of which 6.612 km² are land area.

The place is largely enclosed by Corona and only borders on a community-free area in the east. A little further in this direction is Lake Mathews .

El Cerrito is part of the 37th District in the California Senate , currently represented by Republican Bill Emmerson, and the 71st District of the California State Assembly , represented by Republican Jeff Miller. El Cerrito is also a member of California's 44th Congressional District , which has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R + 6 and is represented by Republican Ken Calvert .
