‹ Super Bowl V | Super Bowl VII › |
The Super Bowl VI was the sixth Super Bowl of the National Football League (NFL). On January 16, 1972, the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins faced each other at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans , Louisiana . The winners were the Dallas Cowboys with a final score of 24: 3. The quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, Roger Staubach , the 12 of 19 passes for 119 yards , threw two touchdowns scored and ran five times for 18 yards, became the Super Bowl MVP elected.
Course of the game
As expected, the Dolphins were inferior throughout the game, both in terms of points and skill. Both defenses were very strong, which is why there were only a few long passes or runs and therefore relatively few points. In the first half, Dallas made a field goal and a touchdown , the Dolphins only a field goal. In the second half of the game, the Cowboys reached two more touchdowns which led to a final score of 24: 3.
Cowboys defensive player Bob Lilly managed one of the longest quarterback sacks in NFL history in the first half when he drove Dolphins quarterback Bob Griese 29 yards back and then tackled .
