Super Bowl V marked the first edition of the final between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). With the four previous championships between the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL), it is the fifth Super Bowl . On January 17, 1971, the Baltimore Colts and the Dallas Cowboys faced each other at Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami , Florida . The Baltimore Colts won the game 16:13. Dallas' linebacker Chuck Howley was named the Super Bowl MVP as the first non-quarterback and player on the losing team .

Course of the game

1st half

The previously slightly favored cowboys were able to achieve a field goal in the first and second quarter , then the Colts followed suit with a touchdown , but did not make the point after touchdown . After the 6: 6 in the meantime, the Dallas Cowboys also managed a touchdown during the first half. They took the lead 13: 6, so it went into the half-time break.

2nd half

The Colts played relatively poorly in the first half. In the second half, the game was as good as decided, as the third quarter remained completely free of points. However, the Colts managed a 4th Quarter comeback by drawing level with a touchdown and five seconds before the end of the game with a field goal by Jim O'Brien with 16:13 lead. The cowboys got the ball one more time on their own 40-yard line. However, Craig Morton's pass was intercepted at the 29-yard line of the Baltimore Colts by Jerry Logan and time was running out.
