Don Shula

The Colts quarterback was Johnny Unitas - one of the greatest playmakers in NFL history. Boyd was used by the Colts as a cornerback in his rookie year . He justified the trust of his coach and was able to achieve seven interceptions in his first year and use them to gain 132 yards . Ewbank did not manage to lead the Colts from mid-table to a championship until 1962, so he was replaced by Don Shula in 1963 . In 1964, Boyd and his team were able to move into the NFL final for the first time, where however the Cleveland Browns had to be defeated 0:27. 1968 moved the Colts with Boyd again in the final. Again the Browns were the opponents and this time the Colts were able to prevail with 34: 0. The victory also brought them into the AFL-NFL Championship Game, which was later renamed the Super Bowl . However, they lost the Super Bowl III against the New York Jets trained by Ewbank with 7:16. Even Boyd could not prevent the quarterback of the Jets Joe Namath from being able to put his wide receivers in the limelight again and again . After that season, Boyd ended his playing career.

Boyd is the Colts record holder with 57 interceptions. In 1964 he achieved the NFL annual record with 185 yards of space. In 1965, his nine interceptions were his annual high in the NFL. Boyd is the Colts record holder with 57 interceptions in a career.
