In his first year he was able to win the NFL championship with his team. The Giants beat the Chicago Bears 47-7 in the NFL final . In 1958 he set the season's best with 65 punts with which he was able to gain a space gain of 2859 yards. His team moved into the NFL final again this year, but failed there at the Baltimore Colts with 17:23. The game was the first meeting in the NFL, which was decided in extra time. After the regular seasons in 1959 and 1961, Chandler moved into the championship game for the third and fourth time, the Giants were again defeated by the Colts in 1959, this time with 31:16, in 1961 they had to admit defeat to the Green Bay Packers 37-0.

From 1962, the Giants Chandler also used as a kicker. That same year he played in his fifth NFL final. Again the Giants lost to the Packers. In the 7:16 defeat of his team, Chandler was able to convert a point after touchdown (PAT). In 1963 Chandler was the statistically best kicker in the NFL and was able to achieve 106 points. In doing so, he helped his team make it to the next NFL final. Again they failed because of the Packers, who prevailed with 14:10. With a field goal and a PAT Don Chandler could not prevent the defeat of his team.

Before the 1965 game round, Chandler moved to the Green Bay Packers trained by Vince Lombardi . He was to remain extraordinarily successful with the Packers. In his first year he immediately moved into the play-offs , where his new team had to play against the Baltimore Colts. Until shortly before the end of the game, the Colts were leading 10: 7. Chandler was able to level the game with a field goal, but he kicked the ball next to the goal post, which was overlooked by the referees. The Packers then won the game in extra time with a second field goal from Chandler 13:10. The wrong decision by the referees prompted a rule change in the NFL. From the 1966 season, two referees stood next to the two goal posts. Both have to decide whether the field goal was scored regularly. In the NFL final, Chandler then scored two field goals in a 23:12 win over the Cleveland Browns .

The Packers also won the NFL championship games for the next two years. In 1966 they met the Dallas Cowboys in the play-offs and won 34:27. Chandler converted four PAT in the game. The victory meant entry into the AFL-NFL Championship Game , later renamed the Super Bowl . The Packers were able to score five touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl I , the associated PAT were all converted by Chandler and the Packers left the field with a 35:10 win. In the NFL final they met again on the Tom Landry supervised cowboys, after the team had previously defeated the Los Angeles Rams with 28: 7 in the play-offs. The game against the team from Dallas was played in Green Bay at −25 degrees Celsius and should go down in NFL history as the Ice Bowl . The Cowboys were an equal opponent in the game for a long time, only a few seconds before the end of the game the Packers quarterback Bart Starr could decide the game with a touchdown. The Packers were able to achieve a total of three touchdowns in the game, Chandler converted the corresponding PAT. Opponents in the upcoming Super Bowl II were the Oakland Raiders . Chandler had a very good day in his last professional game. He got four field goals and three PAT, adding a total of 15 points to make his team 33:14. Chandler ended his career immediately after the game. Don Chandler is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery , Tulsa.
