‹  Super Bowl XXXII Super Bowl XXXIV  ›

The Super Bowl XXXIII was the 33rd Super Bowl , the final game of the 1998 season of the National Football League (NFL) in American football . On January 31, 1999, the Denver Broncos , the champions of the American Football Conference (AFC), defeated the Atlanta Falcons , the champions of the National Football Conference (NFC), at Pro Player Stadium in Miami with 34:19. The 38-year-old quarterback of the Broncos, John Elway , was elected to the Super Bowl MVP , who then retired from his career. The Broncos, who won Super Bowl XXXII the previous year , defended their title.

background

The Super Bowl XXXIII was the eighth that was played in the greater Miami area. For the Denver Broncos it was the sixth participation in a Super Bowl. After the first four finals ended with some significant defeats, the Broncos were able to win the Super Bowl XXXII last year and thus lose their image as an eternal loser. The Broncos had one of the best offenses in the NFL. Especially running back Terrell Davis with 23 touchdowns and quarterback John Elway with 22 touchdown passes with only ten interceptions were among the best players of the season. The Broncos won the first 13 games of the season. They finished the season with a record of 14-2 wins as the best team in the AFC.

The Atlanta Falcons reached the Super Bowl for the first time. Under the former head coach of the Denver Broncos, Dan Reeves , the Falcons experienced a sporting upswing and ended the season with a record of 14: 2 as the second best team in the NFC.
