Reinhard Spree

Reinhard Spree (born October 19, 1941 in Arnsdorf , Hirschberg district in the Riesengebirge , Lower Silesia province ) is a German social and economic historian . His main research interests are historical economic and growth research, questions of social inequality ; Social history of medicine and health care.

Life

He first completed an apprenticeship in banking before studying economics , sociology , social and economic history at the University of Hamburg and the Free University of Berlin from 1963 . Between 1970 and 1973 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Economic and Social History at the Free University. In addition, he took part in the project "A simulation model of the Federal Republic of Germany". From 1973 to 1978 Spree worked at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin. With others he worked on the project “Historical-empirical studies on dimensions of social inequality relevant to socialization”.

Spree in 1975 at the Free University with a dissertation on the growth cycles of the German economy 1840-1880 doctorate . He completed his habilitation in 1981 at the Technical University of Berlin . Between 1978 and 1986 he was professor for the history and theory of industrialization at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences . In addition, he remained associated with the Max Planck Institute for Human Development as an employee. In 1985/86 he represented Sidney Pollard at Bielefeld University . He then held the professorship for economic history at the University of Konstanz until 1992 . He also held various teaching positions at the University of Zurich . In 1992 he became professor for social and economic history at the University of Munich . There he succeeded Wolfgang Zorn . He also took on teaching positions at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . In 2007 he retired.

In addition to monographs, Spree published numerous articles on mostly economic and social-historical topics. He also works as an editor. In 2001, for example, the anthology History of the German Economy in the 20th Century was published .
