The Texas Stadium was a stadium in Irving , Texas , a suburb of Dallas . It served as the venue for the NFL games of the Dallas Cowboys from 1971 to 2008 .

The stadium was built to replace the old Cotton Bowl . It was planned to completely cover the stadium. However, because the stadium could not bear the weight of the entire roof, and public funding ran out before the supporting structure could be modified, only the majority of the seats were covered, but not the pitch. This construction, which is rather unusual in the United States, prompted linebacker DD Lewis to make his famous remark that the hole in the roof was intended “so that God could watch his team”.

For the 2009 NFL season, the Cowboys moved to the newly built AT&T Stadium in Arlington . The first home game in the new stadium took place in September 2009. On the morning of April 11, 2010, the old home of the Dallas Cowboys was blown up.
