The Super Bowl XLIII was the 43rd Super Bowl , the final of the 2008 season of the National Football League (NFL) in American football . On February 1, 2009, the National Football Conference (NFC) champions, the Arizona Cardinals , and the American Football Conference (AFC) champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers , faced each other at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa , Florida . The Pittsburgh Steelers won the game shortly before the end, after Super Bowl IX , Super Bowl X , Super Bowl XIII , Super Bowl XIV and Super Bowl XL they won their sixth Super Bowl in their seventh participation and thus hold the record for most Super -Bowl victories. Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been named Super Bowl MVP .

Course of the game
First half
The game began with the mandatory coin toss , which the Cardinals won, but left the Steelers the right to attack. This turned out to be a mistake as the Steelers made up 71 yards and pushed as far as the opposing 1-yard line. A run by quarterback Roethlisberger brought the Steelers the touchdown and a preliminary 6-0 lead. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt issued a coach's challenge and was right. Roethlisberger did not get into the end zone, the score was reset again. The Steelers failed to play their fourth attempt and instead tried a field goal and took a 3-0 lead.
The Cardinals' attempt to attack did not get beyond their own half, they had to punt . The Steelers, however, were successful again. With two 25-yard passes and then a 7-yard pass to Holmes, they came back to the opposing 1-yard line. Gary Russel completed the attack with a 1-yard touchdown run into the opposing end zone and brought his team 10-0 ahead at the beginning of the second quarter.
The second quarter started far better for the Arizona Cardinals. A 45-yard pass to Anquan Boldin brought the Cardinals to the opposing end zone for the first time. Kurt Warner stumbled on the next move, but was able to keep his balance and threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight-end Ben Patrick, who reduced the gap to 7:10. At this stage of the game, both teams eliminated each other, resulting in some punt attempts on both sides. Only Arizona could be dangerous just before the end of the first half with a move to the opposing 1-yard line. The subsequent pass from Warner ended in an interception from Steelers linebacker James Harrison , who scored a touchdown for Pittsburgh with a sensational 100-yard run. At 17: 7, the teams went into the half-time break.
Second half
The Arizona Cardinals could not use their right of attack at the beginning of the second half and had to punt. The Steelers, however, came back to the opposing end zone with their first attack . Despite the field position, 9 yards from the opposing end zone, they could not achieve a touchdown with their first three attempts. Due to a foul by a defensive linebacker, the Steelers got four more attempts. They couldn't use that either and decided on a field goal. Pittsburgh extended their lead to 20: 7 and only gave the Cardinals seven minutes in the third quarter. This tour also went into the last quarter.
Arizona, led by quarterback Kurt Warner, made an 87-yard play to the Steelers end zone. A pass to Larry Fitzgerald , who escaped despite close cover, resulted in a touchdown. The Cardinals had seven and a half minutes left, with the score at 20:14.
Another punt from Cardinals punter Ben Graham forced the Steelers to launch their attack from their own 1-yard line. Roethlisberger managed a 20-yard pass to Holmes, but the referees decided on a foul by Justin Hartwig, which gave the Cardinals a safety and two points. At 20:16 and only four minutes, the Cardinals got the right to attack again after a punt by the Steelers. On his second play, quarterback Kurt Warner managed a 64-yard touchdown pass, again to Larry Fitzgerald, and brought the Cardinals the surprising 23:20 lead. The Steelers only had 2:33 minutes to score at least one field goal and thus save themselves into overtime .
The Pittsburgh Steelers got the ball at their own 22-yard line, but had to start at the 12-yard line due to a 10-yard penalty. Nevertheless, they made up a few yards fairly quickly and came through a 40-yard pass to Holmes in front of the opposing end zone. Roethlisberger then threw a 6-yard pass to Holmes in the end zone, which landed just before the out-line. The referees checked the play with a review, but gave the touchdown. With the extra point achieved on this, the Steelers had taken the lead again with 27:23, there were only 35 seconds left to play.
Through two wide passes, the Cardinals came very quickly in their attack in half of the Steelers. A fumble of the Arizona quarterback Warner was captured by the Pittsburgh player Brett Keisel, which resulted in a total of sixth Super Bowl victory for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
