Career
player
After high school , LeBeau played for Ohio State University on both defense and offense , in the cornerback and halfback positions .
In 1959 he was selected in the 5th round of the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns , but moved in the same year as a free agent to the Detroit Lions , where he spent his entire NFL playing career until 1972. During this time he played 185 games, 171 of them in a row, which is the NFL record for cornerbacks to date (August 2013). During his playing career, he took part in the Pro Bowl three times .
In 2010, Dick LeBeau was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame .

As early as 1973, one year after the end of his playing career, Dick LeBeau began his coaching career.
His stations as a trainer were:
- 1973–1975: Philadelphia Eagles ( assistant coach , special teams )
- 1976–1979: Green Bay Packers (assistant coach, defensive backs )
- 1980–1983: Cincinnati Bengals (assistant coach, defensive backs)
- 1984–1991: Cincinnati Bengals ( Defensive Coordinator )

- Since 2015: Tennessee Titans (Assistant Head Coach)
As Defensive Coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals , Dick LeBeau developed Zone Blitz in the late 1980s , a defense strategy he perfected in Pittsburgh in the 1990s and which made the Steelers' defense one of the best in the NFL. The great successes of the Steelers after 2000 (winner in Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl XLIII , champion of the AFC 2010) are often attributed to him and his work.
In 2008, LeBeau was named Defensive Coordinator of the Year by The Sporting News .
"Dick LeBeau is arguably the best ever to coach defense. ... He has done it on such a consistent basis over a long period of time. "
After the 2014 season , the Steelers announced that LeBeau would no longer work for the team. However, LeBeau emphasized that he had only resigned, but did not want to retire. A short time later he was hired by the Tennessee Titans as Assistant Head Coach (Defense) . He was employed here until the 2017 NFL season .
